GAME ENGINE MIGRATION SERVICES

End-to-end support for moving existing games between Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot while preserving gameplay, content, and core functionality.

GAME ENGINE MIGRATION EXPERTISE

Moving a game to another engine is rarely a simple transfer.

Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot handle code, rendering, physics, animation, UI, and plugins differently, so some parts of the project can be reused while others need to be adapted or rebuilt.

Teams switch engines for different reasons — to reduce licensing costs, get access to specific tools, improve performance, or move away from technical limitations that are holding the project back.

VSQUAD handles game engine migration between Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot. We start by reviewing the existing project, identifying what can be carried over, and defining what needs to change in the new engine.

Your Game Development Team

You do not need the most senior person by default. You need the right specialist at the right stage, within the project’s budget.

WHY STUDIOS WORK WITH VSQUAD

Move your game to a new engine without losing what already works.

BUDGET CONTROL

You do not need to rebuild the entire game. You need to rebuild only what the new engine requires.

Technical surprises are one of the easiest ways for migration costs to grow. VSQUAD identifies major risks early, sets clear priorities, and keeps the workload focused as the project moves forward. This gives teams better control over costs and reduces expensive changes later in production.

FEEDBACK NEVER LATE

The right migration setup depends on the game, the engines, and the technical scope.

Engine differences can reveal unexpected issues as the project moves forward. A system may behave differently, an integration may need another approach, or a technical limitation may only become clear during implementation. VSQUAD evaluates the impact, adjusts the workflow, and keeps development moving without turning these discoveries into unnecessary delays.

RIGHT TEAM

The right migration setup depends on the game, the engines, and the technical scope.

very migration has a different technical focus. One project may require extensive gameplay reconstruction, while another depends more on rendering, physics, tools, networking, or third-party integrations. VSQUAD builds the team and workflow around those priorities, bringing in the right expertise where the project needs it most.

STUDIO, NOT A FREELANCER

The project does not stall when one specialist becomes unavailable.

Engine migration can involve multiple technical areas, from gameplay systems and rendering to tools, integrations, and content pipelines. VSQUAD works as a coordinated studio team, so project knowledge and responsibility do not depend on one person. This keeps the migration moving even when team composition changes.

REAL PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE

We know what happens when engine differences meet real production constraints.

Engine migration affects more than the codebase. It can change workflows, tools, dependencies, content pipelines, and the way different systems interact. VSQUAD approaches migration as a production challenge, not just a technical conversion, helping teams solve practical issues while keeping the project stable and moving forward.

RIGHT SIZE

One system, one migration stage, or the entire project — all are normal for us.

Some teams need support with a specific part of the migration. Others need a team that can take responsibility for the entire transition to a new engine. VSQUAD can join at a focused stage or handle the migration end to end, scaling the team and scope around the project’s actual needs.

OUR GAME ENGINE MIGRATION PROCESS

We take the project from the existing engine to a stable build in the target environment. The process covers technical assessment, migration planning, system rebuilding, content integration, and final validation.

01. PROJECT ASSESSMENT

We review the existing project, source code, engine version, architecture, assets, plugins, third-party dependencies, and custom tools. This helps identify what can be reused, what needs adaptation, and what must be rebuilt in the target engine.

02. MIGRATION PLANNING

The project is mapped to the target engine before development begins. We define how gameplay systems, rendering, physics, animation, UI, input, networking, and integrations will be transferred or recreated and identify potential technical risks.

03. SYSTEM REBUILD

Engine-dependent functionality is rebuilt using the target engine’s native architecture and tools. Gameplay logic, shaders, physics, UI, animation systems, plugins, and custom features are adapted or recreated where required.

04. CONTENT INTEGRATION

Reusable models, textures, animations, audio, levels, and other assets are transferred and configured in the new environment. Migrated content is connected to the rebuilt systems and adjusted to work correctly in the target engine.

05. TESTING AND STABILIZATION

The migrated build is tested against the original game for gameplay, visuals, controls, performance, and core functionality. Remaining issues are fixed and the project is stabilized for continued development in the new engine.

    FAQ

Key answers about game engine migration, technical requirements, and our process.

Yes. Most games can be migrated, but the amount of work depends on the current engine, project architecture, third-party dependencies, and target engine. A technical assessment is needed to determine what can be reused and what must be rebuilt.
Models, textures, audio, animations, and other source assets can often be reused. Gameplay code, shaders, physics, UI, plugins, and other engine-specific systems usually require adaptation or rebuilding.
That is usually the goal. The original build is used as a reference for gameplay, visuals, controls, and core functionality, although some systems may behave differently because of differences between engines.
It depends on the project size, codebase, engine-specific dependencies, and the amount of functionality that needs to be rebuilt. A timeline can be estimated after the initial technical assessment.
Yes. Migration can run alongside active development, but the workflow needs to account for ongoing changes to avoid repeatedly rebuilding the same systems in both engines.
